Pakistan’s Local Mobile Production fuelling Growth in Jobs, Tech, and Innovation

The mobile phone manufacturing sector in Pakistan is experiencing a transformative phase, with a diverse range of brands contributing to local production. With around 28.43 million units produced in 2024, the industry is poised for further growth. Government backing, coupled with increasing consumer demand, positions Pakistan as a key player in the global mobile manufacturing landscape.

According to the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Engineering Development Board (EDB), more than 93% of phones are being manufactured locally in Pakistan. Currently a total of 36 local mobile assembling units are operating in the country.

As brands continue to innovate and adapt, the future looks bright for the mobile phone industry in Pakistan, paving the way for economic development and technological advancement. This has not only helped the country develop technologically, but has also helped in providing employment opportunities for many people. According to a recent report the 36 mobile assembling units are employing around 40000-50000 people. During a briefing by the EBD to the the Senate Standing Committee on Industries and Production held under the chairmanship of Senator Aon Abbas, the localisation incentives for mobile phone manufacturing were discussed. The committee was also briefed about the status of Solar and EV policy in the country.
