Additional Secretary Commerce, Dr Tariq Huda has informed the Senate Committee on Commerce that Pakistan has decided to participate in the Abu Dhabi Expo 2020 on insistence of UAE government.
Pakistan has spent Rs 700 million as the fee on booking of Pavilion in Expo 2020 Abu Dhabi. In total the Government of Pakistan will give $ 23 million for the Pavilion and the additional resources will be generated through diplomatic channels. According to unconfirmed estimates of the Commerce Ministry total expenditure will be around $ 50 million.
At one stage the government had decided not to participate in the Expo 2020 due to austerity policies in place but when the UAE government insisted that Pakistan is a big country and must participate in the fair, the decision was reviewed and reverted.
