Pakistan has initiated steps to locally produce lithium-ion batteries as the Ministry of Industries and Production begins consultations with key stakeholders ahead of formulating a national Lithium-Ion Battery Policy, in a move aimed at supporting the country’s fast-growing electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage sectors.
A high-level meeting on the proposed policy was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan. The meeting was also attended by Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani, along with senior officials and representatives from the public and private sectors.
Participants held detailed discussions on promoting domestic manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries and agreed to form three working groups to consult all stakeholders before finalising the policy.
