Pakistan has taken a landmark step toward transforming its maritime sector with the inauguration of its first ship recycling facility certified under the Hong Kong International Convention (HKC), signalling a decisive move toward safer, cleaner, and globally compliant shipbreaking practices.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced the milestone at a ceremony held at the Prime Green Recycling Yard, calling the certification a historic achievement for the country. He said the development reflects Pakistan’s growing commitment to international maritime, environmental, and labour safety standards.
“This is a moment of national pride,” the minister said. “The success of the Prime Green Recycling Yard sends a strong message to the world that Pakistan is capable of meeting global benchmarks for environmentally responsible ship recycling.”
