Commerce Ministry of Pakistan and its counterpart, Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Qatar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the establishment of “Pakistan-Qatar joint working group (JWG) on trade and investment. The Prime Minister’s Adviser on Commerce, Textile, Industries and Production and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood inked the MoU with his Qatari counterpart.
As a result of this MoU, a special and dedicated working group will be established to expand the trade and investment cooperation, strengthen communication and enhance trust to boost economic growth by creating enabling environment.
Pakistan is especially working on capitalising on FIFA World Cup 2022 which is to be held in Qatar. FIFA worldcup offers huge export opportunity for Pakistani football manufacturers and exporters. Moreover, Qatar is expecting 2.9 million fans to attend 2022 FIFA event. It is expected there will be a huge demands of replica soccer balls that tourists may carry as gift items
The joint working group will work to identify bottlenecks that are holding the growth of bilateral trade and investment ties. This group is mandated to take necessary measures to unlock the growth potential of the two countries.
Group on the Pakistan side will be headed by Secretary Commerce Ministry of Commerce and Textiles (Commerce Division), Pakistan with the representatives from other relevant Ministries/Departments including Board of Investment as its members. From Qatari side, head of Ministry of Commerce and Industry will be leading the Working group. .
