Overall progress on the Mohmand Dam project was reported to be more than 50 percent. Construction work of 10 key sites of the dam was progressing in a quite satisfactory manner. After completion of the main dam, the project will start generating electricity by early 2028.
After completion of the pit e excavation in the middle of last year 2025, the main dam rock has so far reached a height of 392 meter above mean sea level. Construction work on the spillway presently stood at more than 70 percent while the structure works at the power house have also been started after completion of surface excavation and rock support for the power intake.
Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project, (800 MW) was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in April 2018 for implementation at an estimated cost of Rs 309558.379 million including Rupee Cover of Rs 71546.864 million. Against this, WAPDA had reportedly incurred Rs 135784.067 million till end June 2025.
WAPDA was continuing hydropower project construction with an allocation of Rs 35732.932 million under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) of the Federal Government during the ongoing financial year 2025-26.
