OGDCL Strikes Major Gas and Condensate Discovery in Punjab

In a landmark achievement for Pakistan’s energy sector, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) announced a ground-breaking gas and condensate discovery at its Soghri North-1 well, located in the Soghri Block of Attock district, Punjab. The discovery marks a critical step toward reducing the nation’s dependence on imported energy and underscores OGDCL’s role as a leader in hydrocarbon exploration.

Spudded on May 21, 2024, the Soghri North-1 well was drilled to a depth of 4,942 meters, targeting the resource-rich Patala Formation. Following advanced wireline log analysis and cased-hole testing across multiple geological layers, the well demonstrated a robust flow of 13.95 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD) and 430 barrels per day (BPD) of high-value condensate after stimulation. As the sole operator with a 100% working interest in the Soghri Exploration License, OGDCL hailed the find as a validation of its technical prowess and strategic vision.

“This discovery is a game-changer for Pakistan’s energy landscape,” stated an OGDCL spokesperson. “It not only derisks future exploration in the Soghri Block but also signals the untapped potential of our indigenous reserves.” The find is expected to narrow the nation’s energy deficit, providing a much-needed boost to domestic supply amid rising demand.

Analysts predict the discovery will fortify OGDCL’s reserves portfolio and attract further investment into Pakistan’s exploration sector. Attock, historically a hydrocarbon hotspot, continues to solidify its reputation as a cornerstone of the country’s energy future.

OGDCL reiterated its commitment to accelerating exploration activities, emphasizing innovation and technology to unlock Pakistan’s subsurface potential. With this breakthrough, the state-owned giant reinforces its mission to drive energy security and economic resilience, positioning Pakistan on a path toward sustainable self-reliance.
