OGDCL Starts Gas Production from Sahito-1 Well, Boosting Indigenous Energy Supply

The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has achieved another significant milestone in Pakistan’s energy sector by commencing gas production from the Sahito-1 discovery well in the Lower Goru Formation (Massive Sand) under the Khewari Exploration Licence in Khairpur district, Sindh.

The Sahito-1 discovery, announced on March 26, 2026, has now entered the production phase, with the well currently delivering 6.0 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of natural gas. OGDCL expects production to increase further as planned expansion of surface facilities is completed.

To ensure early commercialization of the discovery, the company has constructed a 6-inch, 5-kilometre flowline linking the Sahito-1 well to the Suleman Gathering Facility for processing at the Sinjhoro Plant. The processed gas is now being injected into the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGCL) transmission network, enabling immediate contribution to the national gas supply.

The Sahito-1 well is operated by OGDCL, which holds a 75 percent working interest in the Khewari Exploration Licence, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) owns the remaining 25 percent stake in the joint venture.

The successful commencement of production marks another step forward in OGDCL’s strategy to accelerate the development and monetization of Pakistan’s indigenous hydrocarbon resources. The project is expected to strengthen domestic energy supplies, reduce reliance on imported fuels, and enhance the country’s energy security while supporting sustainable growth of the upstream oil and gas sector.
