In a major milestone for Pakistan’s power sector, the National Grid Company of Pakistan Ltd (NGC) has energized a vital 500 kV transmission line connecting the K2/K3 nuclear power plants to the national grid. Stretching over 102 kilometers, this double-circuit, quad-bundle line links the K2/K3 units of KANUPP with the Port Qasim–Matiari transmission corridor.
Developed at a cost of approximately PKR 18.45 billion, the project is designed to evacuate 2,200 MW of clean nuclear power from the K2 and K3 facilities near Karachi. The commissioning of this high-capacity transmission route represents a critical step toward strengthening Pakistan’s energy infrastructure.
This dedicated line not only enhances the grid’s transmission capacity but also improves stability and reliability in the southern region. It is expected to stimulate regional economic growth, generate employment opportunities, and contribute to energy security by integrating sustainable nuclear energy into the national mix.
Officials at NGC hailed the project as a strategic achievement that aligns with Pakistan’s long-term vision of ensuring uninterrupted and environmentally responsible power supply to meet growing national demands.
