To maximize the benefit of CPEC for the local industry it is being discussed to include more projects and sectors under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Ideas for inclusion of new sectors were proposed during the first meeting of recently re-constituted CPEC Business Council. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Abdul Razak Dawood, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Commerce and Investment, Secretary BoI, Fareena Mazhar briefed the participants on the role of CPEC Business Council, progress on industrial cooperation and proposed initiatives for enhancing B2B collaboration under the CPEC.
It was suggested that as petrochemical and its domestic production at competitive prices require establishment of petrochemical cracker and it is a best possible option to include this project into CPEC. For this project it was suggested that Thar, being a place of cheap and sustainable energy resources, could be an obvious choice for big industry such as petrochemical and naphtha cracker.
The participants of the meeting also discussed ways to increase ease of doing business at Special Economic Zones (SEZs). It was decided that one window facilitation for economic zones should be made in place under one authority represented by all the concerned ministries.
