Modern Wire & Cable Ind. (Pvt.) Ltd. Powering Pakistan’s Infrastructure with Pre-Stressed Concrete Steel Strands

Engineering Post talks with Mr. Abdul Jabbar Sheikh, CEO Modern Wire and Cables PVT. Ltd.

Modern Wire & Cable Industries (Pvt) Ltd. is a leading Pakistani manufacturer of High Carbon Steel Wire products for infrastructure and industrial applications. With advanced technology, strict quality standards, and a focus on innovation, MWCI supports major projects nationwide, delivering reliable, customized solutions for bridges, flyovers, energy, construction, and transport sectors. The company was established with a clear vision: to provide world-class steel wire solutions for Pakistan’s rapidly expanding infrastructure sector.

Engineering Post had the privilege of interviewing Mr. Abdul Jabbar Sheikh, CEO Modern Wire & Cable Ind. (Pvt) Ltd., who explained that the inspiration for this company stemmed from a rising demand for high-strength, reliable, and cost-effective steel products within the country. “We saw a gap in the market for quality-driven steel wire manufacturing that could support the structural needs of mega infrastructure projects. From day one, our focus has been on delivering quality, engineering excellence, and innovation,” he said. Over time, the company has not only expanded its product portfolio but also upgraded its technological capabilities, becoming a trusted partner in numerous large-scale construction projects across Pakistan.

In discussing their product line, Mr. Abdul Jabbar detailed the wide array of offerings tailored specifically for infrastructure projects such as flyovers, bridges, and underpasses. “We manufacture Pre-Stressed Concrete (PC) Wires & Strands, Cold Drawn Wires, and High Carbon Steel Wires, all of which are essential for structural integrity and long-term durability,” he stated. MWCI also provides customized wire products to meet specific engineering and project requirements, a testament to their client-focused approach.

When asked about their operational footprint, he confirmed that MWCI currently serves only the domestic market. “Our priority has been to support Pakistan’s infrastructure sector.

In terms of technology, MWCI has struck a balance between global advancement and local ingenuity. The company integrates advanced Chinese and Japanese wire-drawing technologies alongside locally developed engineering solutions. “We’ve invested heavily in automation, production capacity enhancement and quality control to maintain the highest levels of product consistency and strength,” he added.

Detailing the technical specifications, Mr. Abdul Jabbar explained that MWCI manufactures wires ranging from 0.30mm upto 13mm in diameter, with tensile strengths between 350 MPa and 2,060 MPa. These products are applied in a wide array of construction and infrastructure contexts, including expressways, ports, high-rise buildings, industrial zones, and transport infrastructure. Additionally, MWCI supplies to sectors such as automotive, energy (including dams and wind energy foundations), furniture, fencing, and even nail and fastener manufacturing.

Product quality and compliance remain at the core of MWCI’s operations. The company adheres to Pakistan Standards (PSQCA), as well as international standards such as ASTM and BS. Their quality systems are ISO-certified, and every batch undergoes rigorous in-house testing before leaving the facility. “We conduct tensile testing, mechanical evaluations, dimensional checks, and batch-wise certifications,” he said.

With regard to handling large-scale orders for time-sensitive mega projects, he emphasized the importance of strategic planning and operational efficiency. “Our dedicated production teams and high-capacity machinery allow us to meet tight deadlines without compromising on quality,” he explained.

Looking ahead, MWCI plans to expand into international markets, particularly the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. The company also aims to invest further in cutting-edge wire-drawing and coating technologies while strengthening its position as a market leader in Pakistan’s infrastructure supply chain.
