Mobasco trying to Revolutionize Pakistan’s Switchgear Industry through modernisation

Engr. Mobin Ahmed, COO/CFO Mobasco talks to Engineering Post

In a recent conversation with Engineering Post, Engr. Mobin Ahmed Idrees, COO and CFO of Mobasco, shed light on how the Karachi based engineering firm is reshaping Pakistan’s switchgear and panel building industry through innovation, quality driven strategies, and a vision to modernize the market. Founded in 2021 by brothers Mobin Ahmed and Asadullah Idrees both NED University engineering graduates Mobasco has rapidly emerged as a disruptor in a sector traditionally dominated by cost-cutting practices and uneven quality standards.

The switchgear market, Mobin explained, is undergoing a transformative phase. Intense competition has made survival contingent on prioritizing quality, a shift he believes will ultimately refine the industry. “Many older panel builders are compromising on quality to save costs in this price-sensitive environment,” he noted. However, Mobasco is part of a new wave of companies challenging this trend. By forging partnerships with stakeholders who prioritize reliability, the firm is pushing the market toward higher standards. “This competition is healthy, it separates those committed to progress from those stuck in outdated practices,” Mobin asserted.

Central to Mobasco’s strategy is its uncompromising approach to sourcing. The company guarantees that all components are procured directly from authorized distributors, ensuring authenticity. To build client trust, Mobasco provides a complete supply chain map with every product, offering transparency from factory to installation. “When customers see the journey of their equipment, they recognize its genuineness. This accountability sets us apart,” Mobin emphasized.

Since its launch, Mobasco’s growth has been striking. Its market share has expanded exponentially, and its factory footprint in Karachi has more than doubled in just three years. The brothers now aim to consolidate their domestic dominance before venturing into exports. A critical step in this plan is the import of advanced machinery commonly used in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf markets but absent in Pakistan. “These machines will revolutionize local production capabilities,” Mobin said. “Once operational, they’ll allow us to meet global benchmarks, positioning Pakistan as a competitive player in international markets.”

Navigating regional market dynamics remains a key focus. While Karachi’s market is consultant-heavy, emphasizing technical precision, Punjab’s landscape is more relationship-driven, with fewer consultants involved. “In Punjab, trust and long-term partnerships are paramount”. Despite these differences, Mobasco is committed to delivering consistent quality and service across all regions.

Another key strength of Mobasco is its robust after-sales service team. “The company prioritizes ensuring that its clients’ operations remain uninterrupted, swiftly addressing any technical issues that arise.” Mobin explained. The company boasts a robust team dedicated to minimizing downtime for clients. “If an issue arises, we resolve it immediately. Our priority is to ensure our customers’ operations never halt,” he added.

Looking ahead, Mobin is optimistic. He sees Mobasco not just as a business but as a catalyst for modernizing Pakistan’s engineering sector. “We’re engineers at heart innovation is in our DNA. By marrying quality with transparency, we’re redefining what the market can expect.” As the industry evolves, Mobasco’s story serves as a testament to the power of vision, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to excellence a formula that continues to drive its rise in Pakistan and beyond.
