The upgradation of the Pakistan Railway ML-1 project is to be completed in phases under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) according to the Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal. He announced this while chairing a meeting regarding the CPEC wherein he highlighted that both the countries have agreed for the ML-1 project to be completed in phases.
Regarding this matter, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal asked the Ministry of Railways to make sure of the completion of all the necessary steps including the required documentation to start the project as soon as possible. He informed that authorities from both the countries have decided to arrange an early meeting regarding the project and its specifications. He also said that the duration of the project will be decided during the said meeting of the Joint Financial Committee to be made after the collaboration of authorities from both the countries.
According to the Minister, both the leaderships have completely agreed on the plan of the second phase of CPEC. He said “In order to take advantage of the growth opportunities, we have to be serious about completing the projects included in Phase-2”. The Railway Minister and the officials of the National Highway Authority (NHA) to prepare a master plan for the corridor across the region, which will show how CPEC and Pakistan can effectively connect the entire region and become an engine of global economic growth.
