Lahore: In the 3rd week of September Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Signed a contract with China CMAC Engineering Company for package 9 of the Mangla refurbishment project. Mangla Switchyard will be updated under this contract. The estimated cost is Rs 1.68 Billion.
The ceremony which was held at WAPDA house was attended by senior officers and representatives from both companies. WAPDA General Manager (Hydel) Development and Member (Power) Engineer Muhammad Arshad Chaudhry and China CMAC Engineering Company Business Manager Liang Xiaofang signed the agreement on behalf of their organizations.
WAPDA has initiated the Mangla Refurbishment project which will result in increasing its Capacity from 1000MW to 1310MW at an estimated cost of Rs.52.224 billion. The project is divided into 11 different packages. These will be completed by closing one tunnel at a time. The refurbishment of all 10 units is likely to be completed by 2024, with the first 2 being completed at the end of 2019.
As far as the financial state is concerned, USAID is providing US $150 Million as a grant and the French Development agency (AFD) will provide Euro 90 Million as loan for the Refurbishment project.
