The Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) has ratified to supply additional water of 650 million gallons per day to Karachi on equal share of costs sharing between federal and Sindh governments. As the supreme aim of project is to provide additional 650 MGD water to Karachi, this magnificent project has been divided into three phases: Phase-l 260 MGD; Phase-II: 260 MCD; and Phase-III: 130 MGD. Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives has published statement that the CDWP in a meeting being held on December 29, 2020, had appreciated the “Karachi Revolution Plan” duly recognized by the ECC and approved by the Federal Cabinet. This recommended project with the proposed change of executing agency of the project from KW&SB to WAPDA and sponsoring agency from Government of Sindh to Ministry of Water Resources will generate fruitful results in coming years. Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives further commented that proactive approval in respect of project was conferred by the Chairman, Ecnec on January 18, 2021 with direction to submit it to the Ecnec in its meeting and get it approved. Howbeit, the resolution is yet to be ratified by the Federal Cabinet.
