Simon Lee, Business Development Director for Lister Petter talks to Engineering Post
Lister Petter, a globally recognized manufacturer of industrial engines, has re-entered the Pakistani market through a strategic partnership with Power Vision Systems Pvt Ltd, marking a significant step in its global expansion strategy. Simon Lee, Business Development Director for Lister Petter, while talking to Engineering Post emphasized the company’s focus on building a network of reliable partners, stating, “Power Vision Systems stood out immediately their technical expertise and deep understanding of engineering in Pakistan made them the ideal choice.” The collaboration follows years of restructuring and investment by Lister Petter, which has expanded its engine portfolio from small air-cooled units (up to 35KW) to robust models capable of delivering up to 2000KW. “We’ve transformed our business,” Simon Lee explained, noting that manufacturing in the UK and China allows the company to balance cost-effectiveness with quality. “Our warranty claims are minimal proof that quality isn’t compromised,” he added, highlighting the reliability of their Chinese production facilities.
Lister Petter’s return to Pakistan after a previous withdrawal from the market, a decision the company aims to rectify with a long-term, phased approach. “Growth takes time. We’ll start small, leverage Power Vision’s expertise, and gradually expand,” Simon Lee said. Power Vision Systems, a Pakistani firm with decades of experience in engine and generator manufacturing, impressed Lister Petter with its technical heritage and market reputation. “Their engineering heritage is unmatched in the region,” he remarked, underscoring the importance of local knowledge in navigating extreme operating conditions and maintenance challenges.
Central to Lister Petter’s strategy is its commitment to simplicity and durability, particularly in markets like Pakistan and the Middle East. “Our philosophy is ‘simple is better,’” Simon Lee emphasized. “You won’t need a laptop to fix our engines. They’re mechanical, robust, and intuitive. Technicians can troubleshoot them with their eyes and hands.” This approach has resonated with customers, with the Starlight range (up to 64KW) gaining rapid popularity in Pakistan. Users report engines running over 5,000 hours without issues, and after basic overhauls, many achieve another 5,000 hours of operation. In the UAE, some units have surpassed 7,000 hours consistent running, shutting down only for routine oil changes. “We build engines that endure harsh conditions without fuss. That’s what our brand stands for,” Simon Lee said.
Customer support is another pillar of Lister Petter’s growth strategy. “Support sells engines,” he asserted. “If customers feel safe, they stay loyal.” The company guarantees responses to technical queries within 24 hours and works closely with distributors like Power Vision to ensure end-user satisfaction. This focus on after-sales service, combined with competitive pricing and the brand’s legacy, has helped Lister Petter carve a niche in competitive markets.
Looking ahead, the company aims to steadily increase its Pakistani market share over the next five years by introducing new products and deepening its collaboration with Power Vision. “The brand’s legacy opens doors, but our engines’ simplicity and price point seal the deal,” Simon Lee noted. With a manufacturing strategy that adapts to regional needs leveraging cost-effective Chinese production for certain markets while maintaining UK-based precision Lister Petter is poised to rebuild its presence in Pakistan. “This is just the beginning,” he concluded. “We’re building a foundation for decades to come.” As the partnership unfolds, the company’s blend of operational flexibility, mechanical simplicity, and customer-centric support will test its ability to thrive in a market ripe with both opportunity and challenge.
