The Punjab government has approved construction of Lahore Ring Road (South Loop -III) under Public Private Partnership at the cost of over Rs. 7.7 billion.
This 8.5 Km long Ring Road will be constructed from Adda plot to Multan Road with 17 under-passes to complete the ring road around Lahore. The approval was given in the 31st Steering Committee meeting presided over by the Minister for Planning & Development Malik Nadeem Kamran.
Minister for P&D said that the construction of PPP mode will be a significant achievement in mega infrastructure development in Punjab Province. It is a strategic road that will reduce congestion in Lahore and enable signal free travel around the provincial capital.
Lahore Ring Road Authority (LRRA) is constructing 22.4 KM South loop in three phases. The Frontier Works Organization FWO has already been awarded contracts for construction work of southern loop-1 (SL-1) and southern loop-2 (SL-2).
The Southern Loop of Lahore Ring Road starts from Sui Gas Town and ends at Gulshan-e-Ravi (Pk-5) passing through Lahore – Islamabad Motorway (M-2) near Babu-Sabu Crossing Ferozepur Road at Gajju-Matta, Raiwind Road at Adda Plot and Multan Road. The Lahore Ring Road mega project is an 85-km long 6-lane high-speed limited-access or controlled-access orbital Punjab provincial highway Lahore. It is linked to the M-2 Motorway and the N5 National Highway. The LRR circles Lahore over a circumference of 85 km. The route of the Lahore Ring Road is from Babu Sabu to Saggian Interchange, Lahore, Niazi Chowk, and then stretching straight up to Mehmood Booti, passing through GT road, Canal Bank Road, Harbanspura Interchange, Barki Road, Abdullah Gul Interchange, Allama Iqbal International Airport, Ghazi Road, DHA Phase V & VII, Sui Gas Society, Ferozepur Road, to Hdira Drain (South) to Halloki, Bahria Town to Niaz Biag. 95% of the northern loop of LRR is now complete. Almost 425,000 vehicles will pass through daily on completion of south loop.
