First shipment of locomotive and bogies for Lahore Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) arrived in Karachi from China and scheduled to reach Lahore during the first week of October.
Khawaja Ahmad Hassan, Chairman of the steering committee for Lahore OLMT, informed this during a weekly progress review meeting. He told officials that a team of Chinese operations and maintenance engineers has already arrived in Lahore for operating the train. “A total of 27 trains, each comprising of five cars, will operate under the OLMT. By the end of this year, 23 sets of trains are scheduled to reach Lahore from China,” he added.
He disclosed that an elaborate ceremony will be held in Lahore for receiving the first batch of the train. He directed the concerned officials to immediately finalize all arrangements for parking these bogies at Dera Gujjar and Ali Town, Raiwind Road. Meanwhile, the meeting was told that gray structures of 24 out of the 26 stations of Lahore OLMT Project has been completed and execution of electrical and mechanical works at all these places was in full swing by Chinese contractor CR-NORINCO.
