Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur has mandated 100% financial progress and strict adherence to physical targets for all provincial hydropower projects by the end of the current fiscal year, declaring their timely completion a top priority to harness the province’s vast potential.
Chairing a high-level meeting of the Energy and Power Department, CM Gandapur underscored the critical importance of accelerating work on both large and small-scale hydroelectric projects currently underway under the Annual Development Programme (ADP).
“Khyber Pakhtunkhwa possesses considerable hydropower potential,” stated the Chief Minister. “Timely and quality completion of ongoing hydropower projects is essential to fully benefit from this indigenous resource.” He directed department officials to ensure that financial progress on all projects reaches 100% by June 30th, while simultaneously meeting all scheduled physical construction milestones.
The meeting featured a detailed briefing by Energy and Power Department officials on the current financial and physical status of ongoing projects. The CM reviewed the progress meticulously, stressing the need for relentless focus to meet the ambitious year-end targets.
The Chief Minister issued specific instructions regarding the under-construction Balakot Hydropower Project, directing officials to formulate plans for supplying electricity generated from this project directly to local industries upon its completion, aiming to boost the regional economy.
Furthermore, CM highlighted the provincial government’s flagship solarisation initiative, demanding “significant progress” on this front as well. “Solarisation is a cornerstone initiative of our government,” he emphasized, signalling a push towards diversifying the province’s renewable energy portfolio alongside hydropower development.
The directives signal a clear push by the KP government to expedite energy infrastructure development, aiming to unlock clean power generation capacity.
