Since the ease in lockdown this month and resumption of business activities Karachi port is back to handling more than 100000 tons of cargo every day. For the month of april the cargo handling had fallen to low levels touching even 48000 tones once.
On 15th may 2020 the Karachi Port handled 111,936 tonnes of cargo comprising 77,621 tonnes of import cargo and 34,315 tonnes of export cargo including 5,602 loaded and empty containers.
The total import cargos of 77,621 tonnes comprised of 28,183 tonnes of containerised cargo; 3,497 tonnes of general cargo; 20,481 tonnes of bulk cargo and 25,460 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. The total export cargos of 34,315 tonnes comprised of 34,119 tonnes of containerised cargo; 196 tonnes of general cargo and nil tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
As many as 5,602 containers comprising of 1,687 containers of import and 3,915 containers of export were handled.
