K-Electric Launches EPIC 2025 to Drive Energy Innovation in Pakistan

K-Electric (KE) has unveiled the Energy Progress & Innovation Challenge (EPIC) 2025, a landmark initiative aimed at revolutionizing Pakistan’s power sector through creativity, local expertise, and cutting-edge technology. Building on the success of its 2022 “7/11+ Innovation Challenge,” EPIC 2025 seeks to unite entrepreneurs, academia, researchers, and think tanks to tackle pressing energy challenges while aligning with regulatory and customer-centric priorities.

The challenge invites innovators to address KE’s predefined problem statements or propose disruptive ideas. Central to this year’s themes is a “Tamper-proof PMT-based load-shedding solution” to ensure equitable power distribution and protect paying customers from undue outages. Other critical focus areas include AI-driven demand forecasting, real-time fleet tracking for utilities, proactive energy theft detection, and enhancing grid reliability through smart transmission line monitoring.

With renewable energy integration rising, EPIC 2025 also prioritizes Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for managing grid dynamics and underground cable health indexing. Additionally, solutions like pre-emptive transformer failure detection and solar PV impact analysis aim to bolster infrastructure resilience. An “Open Innovation” category encourages transformative ideas beyond predefined themes.

“EPIC 2025 reflects our commitment to a sustainable, tech-driven energy future,” said a KE spokesperson. “By collaborating with local talent, we aim to deliver scalable solutions that address both operational efficiency and customer needs.”

Winners will gain mentorship, funding, and pilot opportunities with KE, fostering real-world impact. The initiative underscores KE’s role as a catalyst for sectoral advancement, leveraging homegrown innovation to combat load-shedding, theft, and infrastructure vulnerabilities.

Applications for EPIC 2025 open this month, with submissions evaluated by industry experts. As Pakistan’s energy demands grow, KE’s challenge positions innovation as the cornerstone of progress, inviting the nation’s brightest minds to power a brighter tomorrow.
