An Exclusive Interview with Founder and CEO, Saifuddin Mandviwala
Founded in 1995, JES Instrumentation & Controls is a Pakistan-based engineering company specializing in building management and automation solutions that enhance energy efficiency, operational control, and long-term sustainability. With a strong portfolio spanning healthcare, pharmaceuticals, commercial developments, and residential projects, the company has earned a reputation for reliable, customized automation systems and engineering consultancy services. In an exclusive interaction with Engineering Post, Mr. Saifuddin Mandviwala, Founder and CEO of JES Instrumentation & Controls, shares insights into the company’s journey, its people-centric automation philosophy, and its vision for shaping smarter, more sustainable built environments.
Speaking about the company’s journey, Mr. Mandviwala notes that JES was established at a time when building automation was still an emerging concept in Pakistan. “From the beginning, our focus was clear,” he explains. “We wanted to help organizations operate their buildings more efficiently while creating safer, more comfortable environments for the people inside them.” This philosophy laid the foundation for what he now describes as “human-centered automation,” a concept that has become central to JES’s vision and mission.
Today, JES specializes in the design, installation, and maintenance of comprehensive building management and automation systems, covering HVAC, lighting, security, access control, and advanced energy management. Backed by a highly skilled engineering team, the company also offers engineering consulting services such as feasibility studies, energy audits, system assessments, and project management. According to Mr. Mandviwala, this holistic approach ensures that clients receive long-term value rather than short-term fixes. “Automation is not just about technology,” he says. “It is about understanding how buildings operate over time and how people interact with those spaces every day.”
Strategic partnerships have played a vital role in strengthening JES’s technical capabilities. As an integration partner with Honeywell, Centraline by Honeywell, and Inhemeter, the company delivers globally recognized technologies tailored to local requirements. Mr. Mandviwala emphasizes that while JES may not be the largest organization in the market, its strength lies in passion, agility, and a forward-thinking mindset. “Our size allows us to stay close to our clients and respond quickly with customized solutions,” he adds.
Over the years, JES has built an impressive project portfolio across diverse sectors. In healthcare, where reliability and continuity are critical, the company has implemented building management and HVAC control systems at major institutions such as Liaquat National Hospital and Memon Medical Hospital, ensuring uninterrupted operations alongside centralized monitoring and alarms. In the pharmaceutical sector, projects for Brokees Pharma, Platinum Pharmaceuticals, and Asian Continental Pharmaceuticals have focused on controlled environments, AHU controls, and system integration aligned with regulatory expectations. JES has also delivered large-scale solutions for commercial and retail developments like Gul-Tijarah and Giga Mall, as well as premium residential projects such as Emaar Towers, enabling centralized control and improved operational efficiency.
Mr. Mandviwala highlights that JES’s responsibility does not end at commissioning. Long-term operation and maintenance under Service Level Agreements remain a core strength, with institutional facilities relying on the company for consistent performance years after project completion. “Trust is earned over time,” he remarks. “Our clients know we stand by our systems throughout their lifecycle.”
Looking ahead, Mr. Mandviwala believes the future of building automation lies in sustainability and collaboration.
