IT Exports Surge 28% in First Half of Fiscal Year

Islamabad: Minister of State for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja announced a 28% increase in information and computer technology (ICT) exports during the first six months of the current fiscal year, attributing the growth to improved internet usage and speed across Pakistan.

Speaking during the National Assembly’s question hour , the minister emphasized ongoing efforts to enhance internet services nationwide. She highlighted the government’s plan to launch 5G services as part of a strategic telecommunications transformation, ensuring faster and more reliable connectivity. A consultant has been hired in line with the recommendations of the Spectrum Advisory Committee to oversee the 5G rollout.

Responding to a supplementary question, Khawaja confirmed that platforms such as VPNs and WhatsApp remain fully functional, and comprehensive steps are being taken to improve the overall internet experience.

The PTA has sought legal guidance from the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom (MoIT&T) and will take further action based on the government’s directions. The minister’s remarks reflect the government’s focus on advancing ICT infrastructure to boost exports and improve connectivity, while also addressing regulatory challenges related to internet usage.
