Due to complete lockdown under pandemic, the importation of locally assembled cars kits has risen significantly in the last two months. The complete and partial kits imported by assemblers worth $62 has been sold anticipating a good sale ahead of Eid. A merchant connected one of the reasons for rising imports of parts and accessories to the introduction of locally assembled Toyota Yaris followed by Suzuki Alto and other new vehicles as their assemblers must have taken in kits in bulk quantities to furnish huge expected demand from April onwards. As the manufacturers usually give orders for imported parts, keeping in view 30 days for arrival of deliveries at the anchorage followed by at least 10 days in authorisation of goods and advance booking orders from the customers. According to him, the manufacturers made higher imports but did not expect two-month shutting under the lockdown. Though, the auto sector has now taken a lament of relief, especially in Punjab where the provincial government allowed opening of plants from Monday while confusion still grips in Sindh particularly Karachi.
