The Institute of Engineers-Pakistan (IEP) and the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) will hold a day-long seminar in March 2017 at Lahore on the CPEC (China-Pak Economic Corridor) project related issues.
According to sources, the seminar is primarily aimed at highlighting the Pakistani business community’s apprehensions and other various issues relating to this mega project of national importance.
The duty free import of different goods from China, their impact on the local industry, provision of land in the special economic zones to the local businessmen and employment of engineers, technicians, skilled & semi-skilled labor in the CPEC related projects are likely to be discussed in the seminar.
In the light of recommendations and suggestions of the seminar, the government would be requested to redress the genuine grievances.
The IEP president Dr Izhar ul Haq met the LCCI president Abdul Basit in this regard. During the meeting, they also resolved to constitute team for conducting joint study on the CPEC related issues and apprehensions as well.
