Hozam Switchgear Redefining the Market with Certified Chinese Switchgear Solutions

Hozam Switchgear, a rising name in Pakistan’s electrical industry, has quickly established itself as a trusted supplier of reliable and cost-effective solutions. Since its inception in 2014, the company has remained focused on providing products that combine quality with affordability. In an exclusive conversation with Engineering Post, Muhammad Owais Sheikh, CEO of Hozam, spoke about the company’s journey, its strategy of introducing internationally certified Chinese products, and the vision that continues to drive its growth.

“Hozam was established in 2014 with a vision to deliver reliable electrical products at competitive prices,” explained Muhammad Owais Sheikh. “Initially, our focus was on providing solutions that met the requirements of panel builders and contractors, and we built our reputation steadily on the basis of customer trust.”

The company took a significant step in 2020 when it began importing low-voltage switchgear products. This move, as Sheikh pointed out, was influenced by the challenges posed by currency fluctuations. “As the dollar rate continued to rise, European products became increasingly unaffordable for a large segment of the market. This prompted us to look for alternatives in China. But we were careful to source only those products that adhered to international standards. That has been our differentiating factor, we never compromise on quality.”

While many competitors in the industry focus solely on European imports, Hozam has pursued a different path. By bringing in Chinese-manufactured products that meet the same benchmarks, the company has managed to make quality accessible at significantly lower costs. “Our customers appreciate the balance we offer,” said Sheikh. “They get the same reliability they expect from established brands, but at a price that makes projects more feasible.”

The company’s product range is comprehensive, catering to a wide variety of industry needs. Offerings include molded circuit breakers, miniature circuit breakers in both AC and DC, manual changeover switches, push buttons, selector switches, surge protection devices for AC and DC, under and over-voltage protection systems, single-phase and three-phase, and automatic changeover switches for both single and three-phase. In addition, Hozam provides a full spectrum of components used in switchgear assemblies.

“Our philosophy has always been to ensure availability and reliability,” explained Sheikh. “When a panel builder or contractor approaches us, they know they’ll find what they need under one roof. That convenience, combined with our strict adherence to quality, has earned us a loyal customer base.”

Looking ahead, Muhammad Owais Sheikh is determined to take Hozam beyond import and distribution. “We don’t just want to stop at being a supplier,” he emphasized. “Our long-term vision is to work on technology transfer and gradually move into local manufacturing. Pakistan has immense potential in this sector, and developing indigenous production capabilities will not only reduce reliance on imports but also create opportunities for local employment and skill development.”

The CEO also underlined that this transition will not happen overnight, but the company has already begun strategizing. “It is a step-by-step process. We are currently in discussions with our partners and exploring ways to bring in technical expertise. Once the groundwork is laid, we believe we can make a real contribution to the industry by producing locally with the same high standards we are known for.”
