Punjab Minister for Housing Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed while addressing a press conference held at DGPR, in connection with housing projects being initiated in Renala Khurd (Okara), Chishtian and Lodhran for 6000 houses said that these 6000 are another step towards the ultimate goal of 5 Million houses. The houses are planned to be constructed over 3 and 5 marla. Cost of housing unit of 3 marla on ground floor will be Rs1.75 million and 1st floor will be Rs1.6 million, whereas housing unit of five marla at ground floor would cost Rs2.3 million and the unit of first floor would cost Rs2.1 million. The allottees will be given possession within one and half year. A pilot project is also being initiated in rural areas which will undertake construction of 50 housing units each in selected villages.
The minister also announced that during the second phase 20,000 housing units would be established in Sialkot, Chiniot, Layyah and Faisalabad. He disclosed that 9 development authorities of the province have been entrusted with construction of 100,000 housing units. This task would be completed by end of June, 2019. It was announced that Overseas Pakistanis having domicile of these districts would get 5% discount in the project
