Adviser to Prime Minister on climate change, Malik Amin Aslam has said that this is the perfect time to announce Electric Vehicles (EV) policy as the country has surplus power production at this time. He was talking to the media at an event organized by Pakistan Electric Vehicles & Parts Manufacturers and Traders Association (PEVPMTA)
It is expected that the government would issue SROs related to EV policy, 2019, shortly in order to commence the process of introducing EV in the country. The advisor also dispelled the impression of announcing EV policy unilaterally, saying that all stakeholders were taken on board in the process of formulating EV policy 2019.
EV 2019 is one of the best policies initiated by the incumbent regime as it would provide cheap mode of transportation, reduction in carbon emission and decrease import bill. An estimate suggests that electric vehicles will initially reduce import bill by US$2 billion per annum.
Shaukat Qureshi, General Secretary PEVPMTA said that Scenario will definitely change in Pakistan when the Japanese companies roll out their (EV) models by 2024.
