Haier Pakistan: Delivering HVAC Solutions beyond Home Appliances

Engr. Salman Saleem, Head of CAC Department talks to Engineering Post

Haier Pakistan is cementing its position as a leader in home appliances and climate control solutions, driven by large-scale manufacturing, expanding exports, and customer-focused innovation.

In an exclusive interview with Engineering Post, Engr. Salman Saleem, Head of CAC Department, shared insights on the company’s recent achievements, technological advancements, and long-term vision for the domestic and international markets.

Engr. Saleem highlighted a historic milestone, revealing that Haier Pakistan became the only company in the country to reach USD 1 billion in sales in 2025. “This milestone reflects our customers’ trust, the strength of our local manufacturing ecosystem, and Haier’s long-term commitment to Pakistan,” he said. He noted that this achievement goes beyond sales figures, representing the scale and maturity of the nation’s appliance manufacturing industry.

The company’s manufacturing capacity has grown significantly, now producing 3.8 million units annually, including refrigerators, washing machines, LED TVs, deep freezers, and commercial air conditioners up to 8 tons. “This diverse range allows us to meet both residential and commercial demands from a single integrated facility,” Engr. Salman added.

Exports remain an important pillar of Haier Pakistan’s growth strategy. While acknowledging the current closure of borders with Afghanistan, Engr. Salman Saleem pointed out that the previous year saw significant exports to the Afghan market. “Despite present challenges, Afghanistan has been an important export destination for us,” he said. In addition, Haier Pakistan is actively exporting to several African countries. These exports are being facilitated through the company’s advanced production facility located in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) near Raiwind, which has been developed to support international standards and large-scale manufacturing.

On technological innovation, Haier Pakistan has focused on energy-efficient and sustainable cooling solutions. Engr. Saleem revealed that over the past two years, the company installed more than 18,000 tons of oil-free centrifugal chillers nationwide, favored for commercial and industrial applications due to their energy efficiency, low maintenance, and environmental benefits.

According to Engr. Salman Saleem, Haier Pakistan positions itself not merely as a product manufacturer but as a solution provider. “We design our products by identifying the real pain points of our customers,” he said. He cited several examples of how Haier has responded to national challenges through innovation. “During the peak of Covid-19, we introduced indoor air conditioners equipped with UV cleaning technology to improve indoor air quality,” he explained. Similarly, when smog became a serious concern, Haier launched self indoor cleaning AC units, reducing the need for frequent manual cleaning and improving hygiene.

Recent landmark projects in commercial air conditioning include Lyallpur Galleria-II in Faisalabad, HBK Hypermarket in Islamabad, and Sami Pharma in Karachi, with more developments underway.

Haier Pakistan became the only company in the country to reach USD 1 billion in sales in 2025.
