Mr. Munib Naim, Director, Universal Cables Industries Ltd talks to Engineering Post
Universal Cables Industries Ltd has been a name synonymous with reliability and quality in Pakistan’s cable manufacturing industry for nearly five decades. Established in 1978, the company embarked on its journey with a clear vision. “Our aim has always been to provide the nation with an uninterrupted flow of state-of-the-art services by manufacturing quality wires and cables,” said Mr. Munib Naim, Director of Universal Cables Industries Ltd, in an exclusive conversation with Engineering Post.
Since its inception, Universal Cables has evolved steadily in a competitive market. “We have been following the path of innovation and continuous improvement in our setup, which has kept us ahead in Pakistan’s cable industry,” explained Munib Naim.
Ensuring quality is a cornerstone of the company’s operations. “We are an ISO-certified company and follow international standards for manufacturing. Our state-of-the-art laboratory guarantees that every product we deliver meets the highest benchmarks of reliability,” Munib Naim emphasized.
Over the years, Universal Cables has played a crucial role in the country’s industrial and infrastructure development. “We are among the top suppliers to key institutions such as KE, WAPDA, and other stakeholders who are shaping Pakistan’s infrastructure. We also provide quality cables for industrialization and maintenance to keep industries running smoothly,” noted Munib Naim.
As solar energy adoption accelerates in Pakistan, Universal Cables has positioned itself at the forefront of this transition. “We have been manufacturing solar cables as per international standards for a long time. Solar cables are now one of our key SKUs, and we are adopting a futuristic approach to address this rising demand,” shared Munib Naim.
Balancing innovation with affordability has been one of the company’s biggest challenges, but one it has successfully navigated. “With the joint efforts of our R&D and finance departments, we have been able to innovate continuously while keeping our products affordable for local customers,” said Munib Naim.
Universal Cables’ footprint extends across some of Pakistan’s most prestigious projects and industries. From Descon, Dawlance, Gul Ahmed, and PARCO, to Suparco, PEL, KE, and FFC, the company’s cables have powered critical projects across the country. In parallel, the company has adopted sustainable practices. “We have acquired HSE certification and are committed to controlling emissions and managing waste responsibly,” added Munib Naim.
On the people front, Universal Cables invests heavily in training and exposure. “We conduct regular training programs for our technical teams and send our people to attend international conferences, exhibitions, and seminars. This helps us keep up with global advancements and apply them practically in our system,” highlighted Munib Naim.
Speaking on market challenges, Munib Naim pointed to the presence of the unorganized sector. “They operate with non-competitive offers by compromising on quality. We have been creating awareness among consultants and project engineers to ensure that every project uses safe and reliable cables.”
Looking forward, the company’s ambition is clear. “It’s our vision to become the leading cable manufacturer in Pakistan within the next five years and emerge as a significant exporter to serve our country globally,” said Munib Naim.
Closing the discussion, Munib Naim left a message for customers: “Universal Cables is one of the oldest and most reliable companies in Pakistan. We are committed to maintaining quality, innovation, and safety. Our brand will always remain the first choice for those seeking reliability.”
