Pakistan’s first-ever fully locally developed electric vehicle (EV) was most likely to be launched by June or July 2026 with a price below Rs one million.
According to the Engineering Development Board (EDP) sources, the EV was going to be produced at a manufacturing plant established in Lahore and would mark the first-ever domestically developed electric vehicle (EV) to roll off from the local production linseed’s price range was going to be kept below Rs one million in order to provide a low-cost option for the consumers particularly those currently using two-wheelers.
The EV was expected to offer a driving range of up to 180 kilometers on a single charge thus making it suitable for daily commuting by prospective users.
The sources also indicated that the federal government was most likely to reduce taxes on locally assembled vehicles in the upcoming new federal budget for financial year 2026-26 for improving affordability and supporting the domestic automobile industry.
Additionally, information was also available from reliable concerned sources under the forthcoming National Automobile Policy, the federal government was most likely to support the local manufacture as part of its efforts to support the local automobile manufacturers to expand domestic production.
The federal government , as per some reports, has allocated Rs 100 billion as part of its export incentives to support locally produced vehicles sales overseas Furthermore, a subsidy plan was also in the pipeline to promote the use of electric motor bikes and rickshaws in the country.
