Ministry of Water and Power claimed that country’s electricity generation has touched a new record high at 17720MW at 3:00pm on 17-5-17.
If the Ministry of Water and Power’s claim is accepted and compared with highest generation of 17430 MW recorded last year on June 19 during Ramazan, this shows that generation has increased by a mere 1.6 per cent in one year against average increase in demand of 8 to 10 per cent.
According to a spokesman for Water and Power, of total generation of 17720MW hydel contributed 5240MW, GENCOs 2901 MW whereas IPPs produced 9579MW.
The spokesman said that the successful transmission and distribution of 17720MW supports claims of enhanced affectivity of government’s investment in the power sector.
Ministry of Water and Power claims that shortfall is less than 3000 MW which however, few accept after witnessing on ground situation.
While congratulating the nation and the team at the Ministry of Water and Power, Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif who is facing tough time these days due to unscheduled load shedding, reiterated the government’s resolve to take every possible step towards resolving issues pertaining to electricity. He said that additional generation will further help bridge the gap between demand and supply.
