The construction industry has seen a massive increase in activity since the “Construction amnesty” scheme offered by the government.
Prime Minister Imran Khan while presiding over the weekly meeting of National Coordination Committee for Housing, Construction and Development, was briefed about the recent boom in construction industry in the country and the resulting economic activities and employment opportunities.
The PM was told that investment of Rs 353.43 billion in the construction sector projects in Punjab would generate economic activities worth Rs 1,767.15 billion and create 315,678 job opportunities.
For Punjab applications of construction on 87.03 million square feet in the province have been approved and the process in being streamlined even more to encourage investments.
Similarly in Khyber Pakthunkhwa 10.854 million square feet have been approved for construction and would generate economic activities worth Rs 190 billion in the province.
Chief Secretary Sindh told the meeting that a total of 22 construction projects have been approved in the province. The PM directed the Chief Secretary to ramp up the process to generate economic activity in the province.
While discussing the digitization of land record of the country the PM was told that Punjab and KPK have provided all the data of state lands in all the districts of the provinces to the Survey General of Pakistan. Sindh is yet to provide any data pending approval from Sindh cabinet. The PM reiterated that non-provision of data will strengthen the impression in masses that illegal occupation of state lands and Qabza Mafia (land grabbers) had the backing of influential personalities, therefore it was very important to dispel such impression.
