The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet on Wednesday approved a series of key measures designed to spur industrial growth, strengthen exports, and enhance climate and media initiatives. The meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb.
In a landmark move, the ECC cleared the development of an industrial estate on the land of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) in Karachi. The project is expected to boost industrial activity, generate significant employment opportunities, and attract both local and foreign investment, providing a much-needed economic uplift for the region.
To support Pakistan’s leather industry, the committee approved the removal of Health Quarantine Certificate requirements on the import and export of leather. Officials said the decision will lower trade barriers, reduce costs, and enhance the sector’s competitiveness in international markets.
The ECC also approved a Technical Supplementary Grant (TSG) for the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination for FY2025-26. The grant will support the ministry’s participation in the upcoming 30th Session of the Conference of Parties (COP-30) in Brazil, enabling Pakistan to play a stronger role in global climate negotiations.
Additionally, the committee sanctioned Rs2,829 million in TSG for the Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) to upgrade its English News Channel. The upgrade aims to improve broadcast quality and extend outreach to international audiences. However, the committee emphasized that PTVC must develop a comprehensive business plan to ensure the channel’s long-term financial sustainability.
Chairman Muhammad Aurangzeb stressed the need for timely and effective implementation of these decisions to deliver their intended economic and social benefits.
