Cost of National Highway Authority (NHA)’s under-construction Hyderabad-Sukkur (306 LM) 6=Laned divided , fenced Motorway has jumped up by as much as 138 percent to Rs 395 billion.
The cost of the project, which is being constructed on Build,Operate, Transfer (BOT) basis has been revised upward yet another time and it has now been forwarded to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for consideration and final approval for its continued construction at substantially increased cost .
The project was originally approved for implementation at an estimated cost of Rs 165.000 billion in 2020.It was revised second time at a cost of Rs 10300.000 million by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council in July 2022.
The federal government had allocated Rs 15 billion for the project implementation in the first year which fell short of the estimated Rs 78 billion required.
The project is expected to improve regional connectivity, supporting economic growth in the areas along the motorway.
The first two sections of the project were still being considered for financing under the Public-Private Partnership model while the remaining sections were to be evaluated for their commercial viability.
The National Highway Authority was executing as many as 89 major and minor ongoing schemes at a total estimated cost of Rs Rs207807.173 million including foreign loan of
rs 294988.365 million only for two projects including China-Aided Projects of Pakistan National Highway N-5 Sectional Rehabilitation, Hala-moro 66 KIMs and Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of (N-5) from Moro to Ranipur and Damaged bridges under Asian Development Bank Bank (ADB) Emergency Loan.
