The appointment of Naveed Ismail as Chairman of the Board National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) has been surrounded by controversy.
According to sources, Naveed Ismail has a blemished record as on March 26, 2013, the then Chairman Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda), Syed Raghab Abbas Shah had terminated the contract of Naveed Ismail, who was at that time the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Genco Holding Company Limited (GHCL) citing “poor performance” as the reason.
The official announcement that was issued the next day was as follows: “On account of poor performance of, the contract of the CEO, GHCL has been terminated as per procedure on the direction of competent authority by Chairman Wapda with immediate effect. The charge of CEO GHCL has been assigned to Sultan Muhammad Zafar, CEO Genco-III. Notification to this effect has been issued”
So naturally a high level appointment at this level is surprising. When the Minister for Power, Omar Ayub was asked by the media if he was aware that the contract of Naveed Ismail had been terminated as CEO GHCL due to poor performance, he replied that he was not aware of this fact.
