Report by Engineering Post

Construction work on the long-awaited 306 kilometers 6 Lane divided fenced Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway is likely to commence in May 2026 if all goes well.

The National Highway Authority (NHA) will execute the major communication project under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and construction work on all the sections may commence simultaneously to ensure that the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway was completed timely without any further delay on any account.

Construction of Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway has already been revised twice even before commencement of the long-awaited construction on this major development project.

The project was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in July 2022 for implementation at an estimated cost of Rs 399,000.000 million and till now no construction work was undertaken. Under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) of the Federal Government an allocation of Rs 15000 million was provided for starting construction work which was likely to commence in May 2026 before the end of the ongoing financial year 2025-26

The NHA portfolio included construction of number of motorways in different parts of the country but most of these were being implemented in a delayed manner or  work on some has not even been commenced so far like the Sukkur -Hyderabad Motorway for which the Provincial Sindh Government has long been demanding and yearning.
