Hamdard University and the Center for International Strategic Studies Sindh (CISSS) jointly organized a Conference titled “Nuclear and Space Technologies for Sustainable Development” on 15 March 2023.
Dr Tariq Rafi, Chairman Sindh Higher Education Commission (HEC) was the Chief Guest of the ceremony. The Session was chaired by Ambassador Qazi M. Khalilullah (R), Executive Director CISSS. Welcome remarks were delivered by Professor Kaleem Ahmed Ghias, Registrar Hamdard University. Dr Naeem Salik, Executive Director Strategic Vision Institute, delivered the Keynote address.
The Conference agenda included the following topics: (i) Peaceful Uses of Outer Space by Mr Zafar Iqbal, Member Space Application and Research, SUPARCO; (ii) Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Technology by Dr Ansar Parvez, former Chairman PAEC; (iii) Sustainable Development by Dr Tariq Javid, Professor Hamdard University; and (iv) Nuclear Technology and Food Security by Dr Mehboob Ali Sial, Director Nuclear Institute of Agriculture, Tando Jam.
The Speakers highlighted the significance of nuclear and space technologies for sustainable development. It was emphasized that power generation is the major field of nuclear application in Pakistan.
The role of SUPARCO was explained to the audience and how space applications are important for socio-economic development. It was emphasized that currently SUPARCO is contributing in areas including disaster management, navigation, mapping, mineral exploration, telecommunications and crop monitoring.
The Conference organizing Team of CISSS: Dr Mohid Iftikhar, Iraj Abid, Zeeshan Hyder, Rubia Shoukat, Areeba Azhar, Zubiada Abbasi, and from Hamdard University: Ayman Taj, Maha Rashid and Syed Muhammad Ali Zaidi were applauded by the audience at the end of the Conference.
