Comprehensive Development of Petaro–Sehwan and other Road Sections

In a recent meeting of the Central Development Working Party (CDWP), a significant project in the Transport & Communication sector was highlighted for its potential impact on Pakistan’s infrastructure. The meeting was chaired by Minister PDSI & Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Ahsan Iqbal.

Titled the “CAREC Corridor Development Investment Program Tranche-I Project,” this ambitious initiative focuses on the development and rehabilitation of three critical road sections: the Petaro to Sehwan section covering 130.37 km, the Ratodero to Shikarpur section of 44.40 km, and the Darra Adam Khel to Peshawar section of 34.35 km. Altogether, these road sections amount to 209.12 km, with the total project budget estimated at Rs. 29,966.090 million.

Financing for this extensive project is proposed to come from foreign funding provided by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), with additional contributions from the Government of Sindh (GoS) and the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP). Such a combination of financial backing underscores the project’s significance and potential to improve connectivity within Pakistan and support regional economic growth through the CAREC corridor.

The project’s scope encompasses much more than road construction. It includes the development of bridges, underpasses, and various culverts—such as box and pipe culverts—to ensure proper drainage and connectivity across challenging terrain. The inclusion of retaining walls, drainage systems, erosion control measures, and ancillary facilities indicates a comprehensive approach to infrastructure development, prioritizing durability and safety. Cattle creeps are also part of the design, ensuring minimal disruption to local livestock movement.

This project reflects a commitment to improving Pakistan’s transport network, supporting both local and international trade routes. It is a testament to the country’s focus on enhancing infrastructure to drive economic growth and aligns with the broader vision of sustainable and robust connectivity across the CAREC region.
