In a major boost to Pakistan’s digital economy ambitions, Chinese technology firm IBI Beijing United Technology has announced plans to establish its Digital Economy headquarters in Pakistan, the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed.
The landmark decision follows a high-level meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and an 11-member delegation from IBI, led by its founder, president, and controlling shareholder, Qian Xiaojun. The move is expected to significantly enhance investment, technological innovation, and industrial cooperation in Pakistan’s rapidly growing information technology sector.
Welcoming the delegation, Prime Minister Sharif underscored the deep-rooted Pakistan-China relationship, describing the two countries as “all-weather strategic cooperative partners.” He praised China’s remarkable development under President Xi Jinping and expressed optimism about his upcoming visit to China later this month.
Sharif particularly welcomed IBI’s commitment to fostering digital economy cooperation, attracting fresh investments, and strengthening industrial collaboration between the two nations. The announcement comes on the heels of the successful Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference held in Beijing in September 2025, which laid the groundwork for enhanced economic ties.
This development signals growing confidence among Chinese investors in Pakistan’s digital future and is expected to create new opportunities for local talent, startups, and businesses. Officials believe the establishment of IBI’s regional headquarters will play a pivotal role in accelerating Pakistan’s digital transformation and strengthening the economic dimension of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The Prime Minister’s Office described the partnership as a “significant milestone” in bilateral technological cooperation.
