Chinese MCC interested in Pakistan’s mineral sector

A delegation from the Chinese company “Metallurgical Corporation of China” (MCC) led by its chairman Wang Jaicheng met with the Prime Minister Shehbaz Shareef where the company showed keen interest in increasing its investment in the mineral and mining sector in Pakistan. The company presented a detailed plan to the PM related to the construction of a mineral park in Pakistan and also discussed about the requirement of a further investment plan.

The PM welcomed the company and exclaimed that China is Pakistan’s partner in development and a long standing friend and the government of Pakistan is taking steps on a priority basis to increase foreign investment in the country. He further added that the Chinese company is cordially welcomed to invest in the mineral sector of Pakistan from mining to the production of export goods. Every facility in this regard shall be provided for the investment in order to increase the exports of the country. The PM also directed the concerned federal ministers and officers to consult the Chinese company and resolve all their issues.

The delegation of MCC also met with the Minister for Planning and Development and Special Imitative, Ahsan Iqbal where he told the delegation that mining is a priority area of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Phase 2. He also directed them to prepare their proposal in response to the company’s request to seek inclusion of their latest project in CPEC. It was discussed during the meeting that the operational cost of all mining projects in the province will be reduced if their energy needs are met by establishing a national power grid.
