A high-level Chinese business delegation, led by Yi Jiang, Director of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), held a significant meeting with Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari to explore new investment opportunities in Pakistan’s energy and industrial sectors.
The delegation discussed in detail plans for relocating Chinese industries to Pakistan, initiating technology transfer, and forging partnerships with local businesses. ACFIC, which represents China’s private business community, is currently active in 155 partner countries and is now considering Pakistan as a priority destination for strategic investment.
Highlighting practical proposals, the delegation expressed keen interest in sectors such as electric vehicles, solar energy, charging infrastructure, lithium battery storage, and even crypto mining, suggesting it could help inject flexibility into Pakistan’s national grid. They praised the Matiari transmission line project as a successful example of cross-border energy collaboration.
Minister for Energy welcomed the interest, affirming that Pakistan is ready to support industrial collaboration and knowledge exchange. However, he emphasized that due to economic constraints, the government cannot offer subsidized electricity to industries. He encouraged the delegation to present commercially viable models with clear data and financial viability that align with Pakistan’s national interests.
The meeting marks a forward-looking step in deepening economic cooperation between Pakistan and China, with the potential to boost industrial capacity, technology integration, and regional energy dynamics.
