Chinese company Sunrise construction has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) for the construction of low-cost pre-fabricated houses under Naya Pakistan Housing scheme. The company plans to construct ten thousand houses in Lahore and ten thousand houses in Sialkot in the next three years with the help of pre-fab technology. This technology will be used in the country for the first time.
Punjab Minister Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed, Chairman PHATA and CEO of Sunrise construction Kevin Zhu signed the MoU in the presence of high ranking officials including Chairman Taskforce for Housing Yaqub Izhar, General Secretary Muhammad Atif Ayub and Chairman Public Facilitation Committee Hammad Awan.
The houses constructed through this technology will be easier to build. Construction of these houses can be as fast as one floor per week. Electricity to the houses will be provided through solar panels and recycling plants will be installed besides provision of clean drinking water in these housing units.
The Chinese company has agreed to the condition that 95 percent labour force will be Pakistani while five percent technical staff will be Chinese which means that this project will provide employment to more than 300000 people.
