Candidate for Chairman PEC from Professional Excellence Group: Leading Engineers Forward

Engr. Waseem Nazir’s Vision for a Progressive PEC

Engr. Waseem Nazir, the candidate from the Professional Excellence Group (PEG) for the Chairman of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) elections, is bringing a targeted and focused approach to his campaign. With a vision to enhance professionalism and depoliticize PEC, PEG has formed an alliance with Mian Group to introduce significant institutional reforms.

“We are much targeted. We are focused on our strengths,” says Engr. Waseem Nazir. His campaign is built on a platform of comprehensive change and improvement for the PEC, emphasizing the importance of quality education, enabling environments for companies, and holistic solutions for engineers, especially young and women engineers.

Institutional reforms are at the forefront of Engr. Waseem Nazir’s agenda. He believes that PEC must evolve to stay relevant in the regional market, particularly by enhancing the quality of education and implementing measures that benefit young engineers. “We need to plan for the next ten years at least. Young engineers need to be given representation,” he stresses. By aligning with international best practices, he envisions a regulated PEC that can lead engineer’s forward, living up to their campaign slogan: “Leading Engineers Forward.”

Engr. Waseem Nazir is committed to creating an enabling environment for companies to thrive and provide employment opportunities. “Our goal is to give companies the support they need to grow and provide jobs to our people,” he says.

A key part of PEG’s campaign is the inclusion of young and women engineers. He believes that these groups are can significantly contribute to society if given the proper support and opportunities. “Young and women engineers need to be given a holistic view. They are equally capable, offer a fresh perspective and can serve society properly,” he emphasizes.

Despite the common goal of improving the engineering profession, Engr. Waseem Nazir acknowledges that different groups have varying approaches to achieving this target. He advocates for sustainable solutions and a forward-thinking mindset.

Engr. Waseem Nazir is also acutely aware of the challenges associated with running for election in PEC. The high costs and elaborate campaigns have made it difficult for ordinary engineers to participate in the political process. “Fighting an election in PEC has become very difficult and expensive. Huge gatherings are made. Dinners are offered. To address this, Engr. Waseem Nazir aims to create a truly representative body where involvement is not hindered by financial constraints. “We need to work on how to make a true representative body and make sure everyone can be involved based on what they have to offer the profession rather than how much money they are able or willing to spend,” he adds.

Ethics and integrity are central to Engr. Waseem Nazir’s campaign. He promises not to engage in mudslinging or delve into the pasts of his opponents. “We will show ethics in our campaign. We will not be involved in mudslinging. We will not spend our limited resources and energy in digging up the past, rather all efforts will be focused on what we can do bring about a change,” he asserts. This commitment to a respectful and ethical campaign sets PEG apart from other groups.

Engr. Waseem Nazir’s candidacy for Chairman of PEC represents a vision of progress, inclusivity, and professionalism. With a focus on institutional reforms, quality education, and creating opportunities for young and women engineers, his campaign promises to lead PEC into a future of sustainable growth and innovation.
