Building the Invisible Backbone of Pakistan’s Infrastructure

An in-depth discussion with Mr. Rais Ahmed, CEO of Rais Ahmed Brothers

Behind many of Pakistan’s most recognizable commercial complexes and institutional facilities lies work that is rarely seen but always felt. For more than forty years, Rais Ahmed Brothers has been responsible for creating these essential internal systems, networks of ducting, piping, and air distribution that allow buildings to function efficiently and safely. In a detailed exchange with Engineering Post, Mr. Rais Ahmed reflected on how his company evolved into a trusted name within the country’s infrastructure and construction landscape.

The firm’s journey began in 1983 with a single but defining assignment: the installation of a ducting system for Abbott Laboratories. That project laid the groundwork for a business philosophy centered on responsibility and long-term performance rather than short-term gains.

Over the decades, this approach opened doors to some of Pakistan’s most demanding and high-profile projects. Rais Ahmed Brothers has contributed to developments such as Agha Khan University, Star City Mall, Metro Cash & Carry, Expo Centre Karachi, and key sections of the national motorway network. Their footprint is also visible in busy retail hubs like Lavish Mall at Tariq Road and Teen Talwar. At present, the company is engaged in the EMMAR Tower Karachi project, a landmark development that reflects their continued relevance in large-scale, modern construction.

As the organization looks ahead, continuity is being ensured through active involvement from the next generation. Mr. Rais Ahmed’s elder son, Anis Ahmed, oversees ducting and piping operations, maintaining technical standards across projects. His younger son, Nafees Ahmed, manages air devices while also leading marketing initiatives, strengthening the company’s market presence and client engagement.

Currently the company is providing air devices on the iconic projects of Emaar, The West, being built by Paragon and Emaar Panorama.

What differentiates the company is not just the scale of its projects but the discipline behind its execution. The team operates with a strong emphasis on detailed planning, system coordination, and strict adherence to engineering specifications. According to Mr. Rais Ahmed, “In critical building systems, there is no room for approximation. Every measurement, every joint, and every material choice must be exact.” This mindset has enabled the company to deliver installations that remain dependable long after project handover.

Rais Ahmed Brothers offers a broad range of services related to environmental control and utility systems. Their scope includes ducting, piping, cable trays, grills, diffusers, and a variety of air devices designed for ventilation and air-conditioning applications. While the company provides end-to-end solutions, its strongest expertise remains in ducting and air distribution components. “Our focus has always been on doing a few things exceptionally well,” Mr. Rais Ahmed explained. “Client satisfaction comes naturally when quality is never compromised.”

Strong professional relationships have also played a role in sustaining the firm’s reputation. The company regularly collaborates with leading engineering consultants such as YH Associates, FND Consultants, A Plus Engineering, Same Engineering, and NZ Engineering, partnerships built on consistent performance and mutual trust.
