Engineering Post interviewed Mr. Khalid Ahmad Baig, Managing Director of Baig Engineering, who spoke about the company’s journey and vision. He explained that the work began in 1989 with a small workshop in Karachi, providing services to various brands. Today, Baig Engineering proudly represents Fatek (Taiwan) Schneider Electric (France) MSR (Germany) Atop (Taiwan) Phoenix Contact as its agent in Pakistan.
Talking about technical work and recruitment, he emphasized that hiring fresh engineers and prioritizing the young generation brings new ideas and perspectives to the company. It also provides direction to young professionals as they step into the industry. Alongside this, Baig Engineering is investing in AI and IoT, ensuring that its systems are fully computer-based with PLC implementations and the latest technological advancements.
Highlighting the company’s products and projects, he shared that Baig Engineering works with a wide range of machinery, including PLCs from Schneider and many other international products. Over the years, the company has collaborated with major clients such as Toyota, Honda, Pakistan Navy, and leading pharmaceutical companies.
He also spoke about Baig Engineering’s international presence, mentioning that their Dubai office was established seven years ago, with another office in Sharjah. Through these, the company acts as an agent for Schneider, Atop, and Fatek, while also dealing in Military, electrical products, paper, packaging cement industries and various industries throughout the engineering horizon.
Discussing the challenges faced in Pakistan, Mr. Baig pointed out that the fundamentals of business often lack transparency. He stressed that contracts must be honored and quality maintained to ensure long-term client trust and satisfaction. On the subject of local manufacturing, he emphasized the importance of developing high-quality products in Pakistan for cost-effectiveness and practicality. While local facilities currently fall short of producing world-class products, Baig Engineering is assembling them locally by importing parts and materials, from all over the world.
Offering advice to young engineers, he encouraged them to work hard, train consistently, and contribute their skills and energies toward the development of Pakistan’s industrial and corporate sectors.
When asked about the future, he shared his vision of Baig Engineering continuing to expand worldwide. With offices already in Dubai and Sharjah and a new one being set up in Ajman, he sees the company in the next five years operating on an even larger scale, supported by a growing team of skilled professionals working to broaden its horizons globally.
