ADB, NHA Sign Deal for M6 Motorway Sections under PPP Model

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the National Highway Authority (NHA) have signed an agreement to develop two sections of the M6 Hyderabad–Sukkur Motorway under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, marking an important step toward improving Pakistan’s national road network.

The agreement was signed by ADB Country Director for Pakistan Emma Fan and NHA Member PPP Ijaz Ahmed. The ceremony was witnessed by NHA Member Planning Dr Shafeeq Ahmad, ADB Deputy Country Director Syed Hussain Haider, and Mohammed Azim Hashimi, Director Advisory Division 1, OMDP ADB.

The M6 Motorway project is considered a vital component of Pakistan’s transport infrastructure as it will complete the missing link in the country’s North-South high-speed road corridor. Officials said the project would help streamline logistics, reduce travel time and strengthen trade flows across the country.

Under the agreement, ADB will provide advisory support for project feasibility studies, formulation of a bankable PPP structure and transparent procurement processes aimed at attracting private sector investment and technical expertise.

ADB will also assist in achieving commercial and financial closure of the project to ensure timely implementation.

The planned project includes construction of a 120-kilometre six-lane motorway beginning from Hyderabad, equipped with modern tolling systems, traffic management facilities and enhanced road safety measures.

The motorway is a critical part of the larger Peshawar-Karachi Motorway corridor and is expected to boost connectivity, economic activity and regional integration across Pakistan.
