The Environment Protection Department (EPD) team’s raided 16 factories of Gujranwala engaged in burning of expired batteries and sealed them under the supervision of Deputy Director Usman Azhar and Inspector Ghulam Mustafa. The owners of these units had not installed treatment systems to control the pollution. The factories were located in Industrial Estate No II and its surrounding areas.
EPD Deputy Director Usman Azhar while talking to the media said that. “The sealed factories were harming the environment and were a cause of air pollution,”
The matter was highlighted when residents of Muhafiz Town and Wapda Town registered their complaints on Pakistan Citizen Portal that some factories were causing environmental pollution in their area. Provincial Minister for Environment Protection Muhammad Rizwan while taking notice of these complaints directed the officials of EPD for detailed review of the matter and to take immediate action
