As many as 12 energy sector projects under the great game changer China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) have been completed in the less-developed regions of Sindh province.
Completion of these projects has significantly boosted electricity generation, strengthened transmission capacity, and also enhanced overall energy security in the province .These projects have been completed under various financing modes, including Independent Power Producer (IPP),Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Built-Operate-Transfer (BOT).
A 660MW Engro Thar Power & Mine project has been completed in Tharparkar district at a cost of $ 995 million under the IPP mode.
Four renewable energy projects have been completed in Thatta district. These included 100 MW UEP Wind Farm at a cost of $ 250 million, Three Gorges Wind Project costing 4 150 MILLION, 50 MW Sachal Wind Farm costing $ 134 million, 50 MW Hydro China Dawood Wind Project has been completed at an estimated cost of $ 113 million. All these wind projects have been financed and completed under the IPP model and not only strengthened the renewable energy base of Sindh province itself but also significantly the overall clean energy generation targets at the national level as well.
The 1329 MW Port Qasim Coal Power project at Port Qasim in Karachi has been completed with an investment of $ 1.9 billion under the IPP mode which was one of the largest base load power sources in the country.
The 330 MW Thar Energy Limited project costing $ 487 million, the 330 MW ThalNova Thar Power project costing $497 million and 1320 MW Shanghai Electric (TCB-1) project costing $ 1.9 billion in Tharparkar district were also completed under the IPP mode besides couple of other small projects also completed under the overall CPEC framework in the Sindh provinc
