Punjab Power Development Board (PPDB) of Energy Department and Alternate Energy Development Board (AEDB) has signed an agreement with Zhenfa Pakistan New Energy Company for setting up the 100-megawatt solar project in Chaubara area of Layyah district. Managing Director PPDB, CEO AEDB and CEO of Zhenfa Pakistan New Energy Company signed the letter of support for the project.
This project would be unique in this regard that the tariff fixed for electricity has been set at a very low price of 3.7 cents. While speaking at the occasion Umer Ayub Khan said “Past governments set up expensive energy projects but the incumbent government is generating electricity through cheap resources,” he said, adding: “Net metering will be brought to single-phase as transmission lines have been improved which have the capability to supply 24000-megawatt electricity.”
Punjab government is planning to convert government offices to solar energy. Conversion of 950 Basic health units (BHUs) to solar energy is also in progress. Eight thousand schools have already been converted to solar energy out of the total target of 15,000.
